Timothy Spall

Timothy Spall was and raised in London. In his early days, auditioned and earned a spot with the National Youth Theatre and later showed great promise at RADA. In 1979 he joined the Royal Shakespeare Company and stayed for approximately two years. In the early 80s he moved into TV roles with Mike Leigh’s Home Sweet Home, and later had his own drama series, Frank Stubbs Promotes. With Leigh, Timothy’s appeared in a number of award-winning features, particularly Life Is Sweet and Secrets & Lies, for which he earned a BAFTA Award nomination. He has also worked for noted directors Ken Russell, Clint Eastwood, Bernardo Bertolucci and Kenneth Branagh. More recently he has lent his voice to the popular animated feature Chicken Run and appeared in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events. In 2014, Spall was critically acclaimed for his portrayal of artist JMW Turner in Mike Leigh’s Mr. Turner, for which he was nominated for a ‘Best Actor’ BIFA.
