Tara Hegarty

Tara Hegarty is a Screenwriter, Director and Producer based in Derry, Northern Ireland. She has an MA Screenwriting from IADT and a Post Graduate Diploma in Advanced Producing from TU Dublin. As a writer, she has written for radio, theatre and television, including the BBC Radio 4 drama, The Crossing and its feature film adaptation, Lie of the Land, funded by Northern Ireland Screen, which won Best Irish First Feature at the Galway Film Fleadh, 2023.

As Writer/Director, Tara’s short films include the short documentary Gael Force, funded by Screen Ireland, which premiered at the Cork International Film Festival 2024 . Her short drama, Muirgheilt, funded by Northern Ireland Screen premiered at the Foyle Film Festival in 2017 and was selected for Gaze on Tour, Irish LBGT+ shorts programme, 2019.

Tara has a number of television and film projects in development which have received funding from Northern Ireland Screen/Canada Media Fund, the WRAP fund and Screen Ireland.
