Michael Groom

BAFTA Connect member Michael Groom co-founded the Creative-England-supported production company Laal Blue Dot with his brother David. Before this he worked freelance in the film industry, cutting his teeth with Michael Winterbottom and Andrew Eaton and then Plan B Entertainment (Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner). Michael assisted directors including David Michôd, Jean-Marc Vallée, Garth Davis and Matt Shakman. In 2019 and 2024 Michael was long-listed for the BBC Writersroom. In 2022 he was long-listed for Netflix’s BreakOut scheme. In 2021-23 he partook in the Evolve programme and in 2022-23 the Market Trader programme (Creative England/BFI). In 2024 he was selected to pitch at the Galway Film Market. Between the Lights is his award-winning debut feature (released Dec 2024); it screened in the Breakthrough section of Film London’s ‘London Screenings’, played at festivals all over the world and won the Grand Jury prize for best film at Dances With Films.
