Mat Whitecross’ debut feature film, which he directed with Michael Winterbottom, THE ROAD TO GUANTANAMO won Best Director at Berlin Film Festival in 2006. Mat has gone on to direct commercials and music videos for Coldplay and JayZ,  Take That and The Rolling Stones. In 2009 Mat teamed up with Michael Winterbottom to co-direct THE SHOCK DOCTRINE, an adaptation of Naomi Klein’s book that premiered at Sundance Film Festival in 2010, he also directed documentary MOVING TO MARS which won the Grierson Award for Best Documentary on a Contemporary Issue in 2010. Mat directed BAFTA nominated SEX DRUGS AND ROCK AND ROLL, an Ian Dury biopic written by Paul Viragh, starring Andy Serkis (who won the Evening Standard Film Award for Best Actor), Olivia Williams, Naomie Harris and Ray Winstone that screened at Berlin and Tribeca Film Festivals in 2010. He also directed ASHES, a thriller starring Ray Winstone and Jim Sturgess, SPIKE ISLAND written by Chris Coghil and Primetime Emmy and Satellite award nominated four part television series FLEMING written by John Brownlow, starring Dominic Cooper. His most recent credit, OASIS: SUPERSONIC, an in-depth look at the life and relationships of the band, won Best Documentary at The Empire Awards 2017, Best Music Film at the NME Awards and was nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Craft at the BIFA’s.
