BIFA Training Manager Role

BIFA is recruiting a freelancer / consultant to manage and deliver its industry training programmes. They will deliver BIFA Springboard, BIFA’s year long programme of training and support to first time writers, directors and breakthrough producers who have been longlisted by the Awards, BIFA’s new mentoring programme and BIFA’s pioneering Equality, Diversity and Inclusion training.

We are looking for someone who has experience in delivering training programmes and nurturing creative talent.

BIFA is at the heart of the UK independent film industry and this role will support the emerging talent BIFA recognises and the industry more widely.

 

Start date: ASAP

Hours /Term: 28 hr per week, until April 2022 (possibly longer, funding dependant)

Rate of pay: £17.50 p/h (£490 p/w)

Responsibilities:

  • Lead relationship with funders (ScreenSkills), manage and deliver quarterly reports and evaluations
  • Lead relationships with industry partners and sponsors, cultivate new partnerships
  • Stay aware of industry news and trends and emerging training needs
  • Outreach and support to under-represented groups within the industry
  • Track and attend industry events and training support seminars
  • Collaborate with the BIFA marketing team on social media and external comms relating to training, including promotion and marketing of the courses

 

Springboard

  • Identify and monitor ongoing core training needs from participants via ongoing direct conversation, market research and general industry awareness
  • Implement and deliver bespoke training programme, including:
    • Booking speakers
    • Preparing session materials including speaker bios, handouts and top tip sheets
    • Production (or overseeing production of) post-session documents, video archive, transcripts
    • Following up and evaluating sessions with participants
    • Facilitate sessions (mix of online and in-person), ensuring speakers are well briefed and participants have good notice to prepare questions
    • Host informal drop-in sessions and socials, building relationships with participants
    • Maintain central BIFA Springboard website ensuring session details are kept up to date and courses are posted online as video and audio after each session
    • Maintain ongoing contact with all filmmakers via website, newsletters and WhatsApp
    • Keep the BIFA team informed and aware of Springboard progress and feedback
    • Continue to strategise and develop BIFA Springboard over 2021/22 and beyond
    • Delivery of Springboard initiatives connecting talent with agents and funders

    Mentoring programme

    • Manage and deliver our mentoring programme of 40 mentoring pairs
    • Checking in with mentors and mentees at mid point of programme (4 x 1 hour sessions per pair from November 2021 to May 2022)
    • Manage and deliver quarterly reports and evaluation to funders (Screen Skills)

    Equality, Diversity and Inclusion training

    • Lead relationship with facilitators (Challenge Consultancy) including booking of sessions, feeding back on session requirements, participant details etc
    • Manage Eventbrite booking system, including scheduling the events, putting on sale and managing the tickets
    • Manage all communication with participants, pre and post session
    • Monitor each session
    • Leading industry outreach, marketing and sales for both the standard sessions and bespoke private sessions
    • Book and tailor bespoke industry sessions including:
      • Client consultation to understand their needs from the session
      • Booking sessions with Challenge Consultancy
      • Manage all communication with client including pre and post session information for participants
      • Monitor each session

      Key skills:

      • Communication: excellent verbal and written communications are need for this role. Liaising with the filmmakers about their ongoing requirements and concerns, discussing logistics with speakers, reporting to funders and partners are all a key part of this role. The trust that is developed with the filmmakers is a big part of the engagement and ongoing success for Springboard in particular.
      • Facilitation: for Springboard in particular, you will be expected to facilitate sessions for the participants. This will range from drop-in coffee mornings, watch parties and more formal discussion sessions. The ability to facilitate these sessions in a respectful and safe space where filmmakers can come together to share ideas, thoughts, ideas, projects and also problems is a must.
      • Organisation: With multiple sessions, speakers, filmmakers and stakeholders to keep abreast of, organisation is key for this role. We are looking for someone who has experience of working on projects with multiple layers and detail.
      • Outreach: We’re particularly keen to make sure we’re supporting those who are currently under-represented by the industry so someone with experience in outreach or working with under-represented groups would be ideal
      • Industry communication: Reaching out to individuals and organisations to promote the E, D & I training and our other industry wide incentives
      • Talent development: Listening to and delivering training and support bespoke to the needs of the filmmakers on Springboard is vital. Previous talent development or training experience would be beneficial
      • Experience and knowledge of the UK film industry is needed, as is an awareness of the industry issues e.g. diversity and inclusion, accessibility
      • Working pattern:
        • Due to regular industry events, the role may require working occasional evenings and weekends
        • The BIFA team are working from home and in the BIFA HQ in Golden Square and would be happy to accommodate flexible working for this role
