An army base in rural England is both home and prison to a group of unique children – infected with the zombie pathogen that has decimated the world, but still able to think and feel. When the base falls, one of the children (Melanie) escapes along with her teacher, two soldiers and a biologist who sees her purely as a specimen, a vital resource in the search for a cure. Against the backdrop of a blighted Britain Melanie must discover what she is and ultimately decide both her own future and that of the human race.
