BIFA SHORT FILM COMPETITION

Inspired by the makers of Host. Get into the filmmaking spirit, and create your own DIY horror short for the chance to win a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K, DaVinci Resolve Studio, Raindance passes, off-competition screening on the Raindance Player during the festival, a membership to streaming service Shudder, a masterclass with the makers of Host and a Host limited edition boxset. All entries must be received by midnight 16 April 2021.

Prizes

There will be a first prize winner, plus a second and third prize winner. Blackmagic will offer a DaVinci Resolve Studio workshop to 50 entrants on a first come, first serve basis. All entries will have the chance to participate in the Host masterclass.

Host’s filmmaking  team will judge the competition, with the most creative, chilling and resourceful entries receiving top honours.

First place

Value Add

  • Blackmagic will offer a DaVinci Resolve Studio Workshop on a first come first served basis to all entrants who wish to take part. A waiting list will be managed via Blackmagic through an Eventbrite page. 50 entrants are permitted per workshop (with a maximum of two workshops allocated by Blackmagic). The attendees are given access to all of the project media and only need to download the free version of DaVinci Resolve Studio and Zoom to take part.

Competition Terms and Conditions

  1. The competition is open to all UK residents, as well as residents in North America and countries within the EU. Geo restrictions are due to shipping issues. The box set DVD is available to UK and EU residents only due to regional formatting. Employees of the Promoter, their families, agents or any third party directly associated with administration of the competition are not permitted to enter. Winners under 18 must be accompanied by an adult to attend the masterclass and/or DaVinci Resolve Studio workshop.
  2. The competition is free to enter and no purchase is necessary. One entry per person, with a running time no longer than 3 minutes. The entry cannot have publicly screened anywhere else and must have been created for the purpose of the competition.
  3. In order to submit an entry, share your short video on either Instagram or Twitter, tagging @bifa_film and using the hashtag #ThisIsOurCinema and #Blackmagicdesign. The entrant must also follow BIFA on Instagram (instagram.com/bifa_film) or Twitter (twitter.com/BIFA_film)
  4. Entrants found to be using multiple accounts to enter will be ineligible.
  5. The competition starts on 12.00pm BST 19 March 2021 and ends at midnight BST 16 April 2021. Entries received after this time will not be considered.
  6. The Promoter accepts no responsibility for entries not successfully completed due to a technical fault, technical malfunction, computer hardware or software failure, satellite, network or server failure of any kind.
  7. Winner(s) will be chosen by the filmmaking team of Host.
  8. The winners will be notified within 1-3 months from the closing date (dependent on availability of Host’s filmmaking team) by direct message on Instagram. Winners will also be announced publicly across all of BIFA’s social platforms, once the winners have confirmed acceptance of their prize. Winners must provide a full postal address, email address, and confirmation of their age to claim their prize. If a winner does not respond to the Promoter with the required details within 2 days of being notified by the Promoter, then the winner’s prize will be forfeited and the Promoter will be entitled to select another winner in accordance with the process described above.
  9. The prize will be sent to the winner by post and/or email within 1 – 3 months of being notified of their win.
  10. The prize for the winner is non-exchangeable, non-transferable and no cash alternative is offered.
  11. The prize is supplied by BIFA, via the respective organisation offering the prize. The Promoter reserves the right to replace the prize with an alternative prize of equal or higher value if circumstances beyond the Promoter’s control makes it necessary to do so.
  12. The decision of the Promoter regarding any aspect of the competition is final and binding and no correspondence will be entered into about it.
  13. Participants are deemed to have accepted and agreed to be bound by these terms and conditions upon entry. The Promoter reserves the right to refuse entry, or refuse to award the prize to anyone in breach of these terms and conditions.
  14. The Promoter reserves the right to hold void, cancel, suspend, or amend the promotion where it becomes necessary to do so.
  15. Insofar as is permitted by law, the Promoter, its agents or distributors will not in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate the winner or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring as a result of taking up the prize except where it is caused by the negligence of the Promoter, its agents or distributors or that of their employees. Your statutory rights are not affected.
  16. Winners may be required to participate in publicity related to the competition which may include the publication of their name, social media post, and/or photograph or video in any media.
  17. Personal data supplied during the course of this promotion may be passed on to third party suppliers only insofar as required for fulfilment/delivery/arrangement of the prize.
  18. The competition will be governed by English law and entrants to the competition submit to the jurisdiction of the English courts.
