BIFA 2021 Juries Announced

BIFA today announced filmmakers Romola Garai, Craig Roberts, Alice Lowe, actors Jason Isaacs, Emma Corrin, Jennifer Ehle and presenter Rhianna Dillon will serve on the 24th British Independent Film Awards juries, whose full line-ups were unveiled today.

Under the direction of producer Bennett McGhee, whose film Mogul Mowgli was BIFA-nominated in 2020, the Main Jury this year is comprised of a wealth of talent from both in front of and behind the camera including: culture writer and broadcaster Simran Hans, BIFA nominated casting director Theo Park who recently won a Primetime Emmy for her work on Ted Lasso, writer and broadcaster Michael Leader, award-winning actress Emma Corrin, best known for the role of Lady Diana Spencer in Neflix’s The Crown, acclaimed composer Nainita Desai, BIFA nominated for her work on For Sama (2019) and The Reason I Jump (2020), award-winning film and television producer Andrea Cornwell, BAFTA winning and BIFA nominated actress Jennifer Ehle, BIFA nominated director and cinematographer Molly Manning-Walker, and BIFA winning director and writer Alice Lowe (Sightseers, 2012). The jury will decide the winners of Best Director, Best Screenplay sponsored by BBC Film, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress and the Special Jury Prize, which has been presented to June Givanni, Horace Ové and Femi Oguns in recent years. 

Chairing the New Talent Jury is BIFA nominated actress, writer and director Romola Garai, who will lead a group of industry pioneers including: presenter and film critic Rhianna Dhillon, award winning actor Jason Isaacs, Martin Gentles, BIFA nominated producer of award winning feature His House, director and actor Craig Roberts, actor and Lucifer star Tom Ellis, actress, writer and BAFTA Breakthrough Brit Susan Wokoma, actress Morfydd Clark, who was nominated for a Best Lead Actress at BIFA in 2020 for Saint Maud, BIFA nominated screenwriter and playwright Kefi Chadwick (Looted, 2020) and poet, author, filmmaker and Young People’s Laureate for London 2016, Caleb Femi. The New Talent Jury decide the winners of Debut Director, Best Debut Screenwriter sponsored by Film4, Breakthrough Producer sponsored by Pinewood Studios Group and Breakthrough Performance,

The two juries have a strong line up to critique with 23 outstanding British titles nominated across the various categories they judge, including Aleem Khan’s After Love, with seven nominations, Clio Barnard’s Ali & Ava and Sean Durkin’s The Nest with four nominations, and Kenneth Branagh’s Belfast with four performance nominations. 

Winners will be announced at the BIFA ceremony on Sunday 5 December.
